The Fibromyalgia syndrome (or FMS) can be more suitably seen as a cluster of problems for the human body. People who suffer from FMS suffer all sorts of symptoms like pain in parts of the body, either in specific places or all over the body, sleeping disorders, are always tired, and have many other symptoms.

Five to ten percent of the earth's entire population has FMS. Most of this five to ten percent are women, but men and children also experience the symptoms of FMS as well. FMS sufferers experience these symptoms:

1.) Body pains

The most distinguishable symptom for a FMS sufferer is bodily pains. In a more medical explanation, this pain cab be described more of a musculoskeletal ache, pain and stiffness of the body. For this body pain to be described as a fibromyalgia pain, the pain has to be present in the four body quadrants, which are the arms and the legs, and has been around for at least 3 months. There also has to be pain when pressure is applied to these points, at least 11 of the 18 identifiable trigger points.

Many people who suffer from FMS describe it as being hardly able to move because of the pain, you struggle everyday just to stay mobile, indescribable pain around the body, or even wishing that all this pain would end.

The pain that FMS sufferers feel would die out and then go back from time to time with varying intensities. FMS sufferers say that the pain sort of has good days and bad days for some days the pain can be handled while some days you just can't get out of bed because of the pain. The pain can sometimes get worse when on cold or humid days, or when the sufferer hasn't slept that well, when you're either too active or too inactive, or maybe even when you are stressed out.

2.) Fatigue

Another disabling symptom of FMS is the fatigue. Medical explanations states that recent findings that would make the person fatigued is because of a stage four sleep disorder called alpha EEG anomaly. During this stage four of deep sleep, the brain would have the person sleeping some bursts of awake-like activity, so there would be not enough undisturbed deep sleep for the body to get fully rested.

In addition to this alpha EEG anomaly, a lot of FMS sufferers also suffer from sleep apnea, bruxism or grinding of the teeth during deep sleep, upper airway resistance syndrome, jerking of limbs and the restless leg syndrome. All of these would contribute to fatigue caused by fibromyalgia.

3.) Other symptoms

Pain and fatigue are just two of the symptoms FMS sufferers experience. Forty to seventy percent of FMS sufferers also experience some irritable bowel movement and other gastrointestinal problems. Others would also experience diarrhea, constipation, excessive gassiness, abdominal pain, and nausea.

FMS sufferers would sometimes be dealt with mental and emotional problems because of these various symptoms. These mental and emotional symptoms manifest themselves alongside the physical symptoms of FMS. Many FMS sufferers also complain of confusion, reduction of doing simple tasks effectively, difficulty in thinking clearly, and a reduction to perform some mental tasks. These overall symptoms of the mind or mental fogginess has now been termed as "Fibro Fog."
